Switch streamlines induction process for major Utility
E.ON, the owner of Powergen, has hundreds of new employees joining the company every month. With sites across the country the task of ensuring that each new member of staff is welcomed appropriately, and understands everything from the company’s Visions and Values to how they go about setting up a telephone extension or an email address, is truly mammoth. Communicating via traditional methods would hardly be the induction experience expected of world's largest investor-owned power and gas company, let alone one with such strong environmental principles.
The answer came from Switch Web Design Solutions. Having worked with Powergen and E.ON over the last 17 years, the firm was well placed to deliver a solution which promoted E.ON’s brand values in an exciting format whilst communicating detailed information with clarity. Everything, from illustrating the Company’s global operating structure to E.ON’s policy document, for example, on the use of mobile phones is now contained on one CD which is posted directly to the new employee along with their contract of employment. It’s a streamlined solution which delivers everything a new employee could need, making their induction experience stimulating and the prospect of their first day with E.ON an exciting milestone in their new career.
Melissa Platt at E.ON commented, “To give our newcomers a true flavour of the company would have required a brochure of catalogue proportions. Every aspect of a traditional format conspired to compromise the story we could hope to tell our new employee. From postage to paper usage the costs and impact on the environment were unacceptable. We now have everything we want on one beautifully presented CD. The solution conforms to our strict brand guidelines and is easy to use.”
New Media Business Manager at Switch, Warren Drumm, continues, “Switch have been working with various departments within E.ON producing mainly intranet-based modules for some time now. This stood us in great stead to help produce a cost-effective solution for the Company’s induction material requirements. The CD contains a massive amount of information but is presented in such a way that the user can quickly find and absorb relevant information. The packaging was also really important. We wanted to produce something which when received the user would feel compelled to find the nearest PC!”
